The Vision

The Spirit of a Tunisian Female Entrepreneur

Despite progress, Tunisian women still bear a heavier burden than men in childcare, elder care and caring for people with disability. Thus, lines between their personal and professional lives become blurry, and before they know it, non-existent.
Biography
Syrine Dimassi Darghouth is the General Manager of the Maghreb Institute for Management and Tourism (IMM), a training school specializing in hospitality and tourism. The school has opened its doors for the past twenty-five years and trains cooks, pastry chefs, and hospitality officers. Syrine is also the Vice President of the National Chamber of Women Entrepreneurs (CNFCE) and the President of the regional chamber of women entrepreneurs of the region of Ariana.

CNFCE is a structure operating under the umbrella of UTICA and a network of more than 800 women CEOs operating in all sectors and based all across Tunisia due to their 24 regional chambers. It brings together women entrepreneurs of economic activity for whom entrepreneurship is a lifestyle and a way of life. It is at the CNFCE that they gather their energies, strengthen their skills and visibility, reinforce their network and put forward their ambitions of contributing actively to the economic and social development of their country. At last, CNFCE aims at creating a synergy between the regions to make it a force for economic development.
Synopsis

Contrary to what one might think given the stereotypes surrounding the Middle East and North Africa region, there is no shortage of inspiring female entrepreneurs in Tunisia. Having grown up in a supportive family that values female independence and liberation, Syrine narrates how she turned her passion for gastronomy and pastry into a successful business. For her, financially independent women become role models for their children especially their daughters while further helping in uprooting old-fashioned gender biases. In this video, Syrine addresses the widely assumed empathy deficit on the man’s part towards his female colleagues and what should be done about that.
